Free Article 50 chatbot checker
Does your chatbot say it's AI?
From August 2026, the EU AI Act requires chatbots to tell people they're talking to AI. We load your site in a real browser, open the chat window and check the visible chat for a clear AI disclosure. A chat is only counted as AI with hard technical proof.
What we test
AI chat is clearly disclosed
We open the chat launcher, confirm a visible window with a message box, and look for wording that tells visitors it's AI. A screenshot review confirms the result.

Questions
What does Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act require?
AI systems that talk with people, like chatbots, must make clear that the person is interacting with AI, unless it's obvious from the context. The rule applies from 2 August 2026.
Does it apply to UK or US businesses?
Yes, if your chatbot is available to people in the EU. The AI Act covers AI systems used in the EU regardless of where the business is based.
How do you know the chat is AI?
Only on technical proof: an AI-only chat vendor or a request to an AI model while the chat runs. Live chat with human agents is not flagged.
What if the chat doesn't open?
If no visible chat window with a message box appears, the check is marked not tested rather than guessed.
What are the fines?
Breaches of the transparency rules can be fined up to €15 million or 3% of worldwide annual turnover, whichever is higher.
Is the checker free?
Yes. You can scan any website once a day for free with no sign-up.
